Saratoga is a small community in Santa Clara County, Calif., just south of Silicon Valley. The community is approximately 20 minutes southwest of San Jose and is located in the southern Bay area. The affluent community has many beautiful attractions, parks, and wineries.
Originally a logging town, it is now one of Silicon Valley’s premiere affluent communities. It’s known for spacious private lots, mountain views, gated residences, and a small but vibrant downtown boasting several Michelin restaurants. Saratoga is an idyllic town where you can take a break from the city and enjoy the beauty of California outdoors without traveling far.
The community has a reputation for being highly sought after and developing a strong sense of community pride and belonging. This is partly due to the community's robust social fabric; natural beauty and recreational resources are plentiful.

Local Lifestyle
Saratoga is an excellent place for Californians to visit and a great place to live. It’s known for its quaint Old Town, with coffee shops, galleries, restaurants, and tree-lined streets. The town has much to offer: excellent weather, a thriving arts community, and some of the best views in the state. The community is relaxing and a great place to escape the daily hustle of Silicon Valley.
Dining, Entertainment & Shopping
Outside town in the mountains, there are many wineries and horseback riding venues. The Plumed Horse and La Fondue have long been fine dining experiences in Saratoga. Big Basin Burger Bar is a casual eatery that serves gourmet burgers, great salads, and quinoa bowls from all-natural and organic ingredients. The Hero Ranch Kitchen has a rustic farm-style atmosphere with sophisticated decor and serves artfully plated American cuisine. Flowers, its sister hotel next door, offers an upscale small plate eatery, and Bella Saratoga is a classic dining option with a weekend brunch served in its restored Victorian home.
The community has many shopping centers, including Saratoga Village Center, Westgate Corner, Argonaut Center, El Paseo de Saratoga, and The Plaza Shopping Center.
Things to Do
Saratoga Historical Museum is part of Saratoga’s historical foundation. The museum has several exhibits and educational programs and is housed in the original schoolhouse of Saratoga; if you blink, you may miss it. It’s tiny but full of great history.
Montalvo Arts Center in the gorgeous Villa Montalvo connects community members in an art-education facility. Montalvo has beautiful grounds, hiking, large trees to explore, events, and summer concerts in its outdoor amphitheater. If you love stepping back into time to experience the luxury of the past, this is one place not to miss. Leading up to the Villa is a network of streets boasting some of the most beautiful homes in the area.
House Family Vineyards is a reservation-only venue with stunning views, a delicious wine experience, and a wine club. If you are looking for a private country club experience, Saratoga County Club is a small estate with golf, tennis, pool, clubhouse, and dining. Hakone Estate and Gardens is a National Trust for Historic Preservation premiere site and one of the oldest Japanese estates in the western U.S. Its 18 acres include a koi pond, exhibitions, and lush gardens.
Schools
Saratoga Union School District is a kindergarten through eighth-grade system with just over 1,600 students. Saratoga High School is part of the Los Gatos Saratoga Joint School District, and residents of both communities can apply to attend the high school. Parts of Saratoga are also served by Campbell Union School District.
